Brooklands Service Group delivers expert brick cleaning solutions tailored to new builds, heritage restorations, and commercial façades. Combining professional brick cleaning techniques with a deep understanding of material integrity to achieve spotless, long-lasting results.

In June 2023, Brooklands were employed to provide their commercial brick cleaning service by Winvic for a project on Sylvestor Street in Sheffield.  Sylvester Street in Sheffield is home to a striking new build-to-rent development.  Comprising 335 high-quality apartments across buildings ranging from 5 to 14 storeys.

Scope of Wor

As part of the external works, specialist brick cleaning was commissioned to ensure the façade’s architectural integrity and visual impact matched the development’s premium standards.

Over the course of construction, airborne pollutants, mortar smears, and site debris had dulled the brickwork’s finish necessitating a targeted cleaning programme.

The 99 week development program was hoping to be completed by the end of Summer 2023.  In June 2023 Winvic asked Brooklands to take on the exterior brick cleaning of the development after the original supplier didn’t perform to their standards.

Brick Cleaning Objectives

– Restore the natural tone and texture of the brickwork
– Remove construction residue without damaging the façade
– Enhance kerb appeal and ensure consistency across elevations
– Support long-term durability and weather resistance

Brooklands had to sticking to tight deadlines to keep Winvic on track to complete the new build-to-rent apartments by the end of Summer 2023.  With masses of scaffolding around the building and labour onsite, everyday it ran over additional unwanted costs were added to the project.

We were able to mobilise the contract quickly to meet their requests, within 1 week our technicians were onsite brick cleaning!

Methodology

– Initial Assessment: A site-wide inspection identified areas requiring intensive treatment versus light restoration.
– Gentle Jet Washing: Low-pressure water systems were used to lift surface grime without compromising mortar joints.
– Chemical-Free Cleaning: Where possible, eco-friendly methods were prioritised to align with the development’s sustainability goals.

Challenges & Solutions

– Height Variation: With elevations reaching 14 storeys, access required coordinated use of MEWPs and scaffolding.
– Material Sensitivity: The blend of brick types demanded tailored cleaning techniques to avoid colour distortion.
– Weather Dependency: Cleaning was scheduled around Sheffield’s unpredictable climate to ensure optimal drying and finish.

Results

Brooklands were delighted to be part of the construction project. The cleaned brickwork now showcases the full depth of colour and craftsmanship intended by the architects.  Our clients were delighted with the results! residents and visitors enjoy admiring a visually cohesive and welcoming environment that reflects the quality of the development.
