Project Spotlight: Bradford Council

Scope of Work

In October 2021, Brooklands was commissioned by Bradford Council to carry out a full street cleansing project to revitalise the town’s streets and shop fronts following the Covid-19 pandemic. This included litter removal, deep cleaning of streets and pavements, shop front cleaning, and graffiti removal.

Methodology

Brooklands completed a competitive tender before being awarded the contract, giving our team detailed knowledge of the areas and surfaces requiring attention. A final site visit allowed us to mobilise quickly and implement a structured cleansing schedule.

• Steam & Pressure Washing: Used to lift surface grime without damaging finishes, effectively removing stubborn stains, graffiti, and chewing gum.
• Safety Measures: Signage, PPE, and road barriers were in place throughout to ensure public safety.
• Eco-Friendly Approach: As the work took place in public areas, chemical-free cleaning methods were used wherever possible, aligning with both Brooklands’ and Bradford Council’s sustainability goals.

Street Cleansing Challenges & Solutions

The main challenge was accessing busy public areas. We minimised disruption by working in sections and scheduling cleans during evenings when shops were closed and foot traffic was low.

Results

The streets and shop fronts were completely revitalised ready to welcome the public back to a clean and safe environment post-pandemic. Bradford Council was delighted with the results and received overwhelmingly positive feedback from local businesses and visitors.
