Our green initiatives for a better future.

Environmental issues are at the forefront of global concerns, it is crucial for businesses both big and small to be more conscious of the impact they are having on our planet.

As of November 2024, 17% of our fleet is electric and all other vehicles are within 3 years old and have ad-blue systems along with the latest and most economical engines.

At Brooklands we have adopted many green initiatives to reduce our carbon footprint and inspire positive change within employees and customers.

Creating a Sustainable Workplace

In this blog we list the green initiatives that we have adopted at Brooklands.  This proactive approach to creating a sustainable workplace at Brooklands has made us more eco – friendly and environmentally conscious.

  1. Eco-friendly products and materials – where possible we use recycled materials and products that have a low environmental impact.
  2.  Online esimates  – Google Earth, images and video calls gives us all the information we need to provide a quote for the cleaning services that our clients require reducing unnecessary journeys.
  3. Hybrid meetings – asking people to join a meeting virtually also helps to reduce people making long and unnecessary journeys that release greenhouse gases and other air pollutants into the atmosphere. Using teams, we find that meetings and interviews can be just as engaging as an in-person meeting, allowing us to collaborate effectively with staff and delegates wherever they are in the world!
  4. LED Lighting – by switching our lighting over to LED (light-emitting diode) lights we use less energy in the office. These bulbs also last longer and provide a brighter light than traditional bulbs. LED lights not only reduces our carbon footprint but also help us save money on our energy bill making it an excellent way to cut costs whilst being environmentally conscious at the same time.
  5. Reducing Carbon Fossil Fuels – where practical we purchase and use electrical mains or battery powered equipment instead of using combustion engines that consume carbon-based fossil fuels—gas or diesel—that emit significant pollutants (e.g., carbon dioxide) into the environment.
  6. Recycle, recycle, recycle – we make a concerted effort to recycle as much waste as possible in the workplace to help reduce our carbon footprint.
  7. Hazardous waste disposal – any hazardous waste that we collect from sites we correctly disposing of and keep records of waste transfer and consignment notes.
  8. Paperless job scheduling & reporting – in 2021 we incorporated BigChange an all-in-one field service management software into the Brooklands day to day operations which allows us to run our jobs completely paperless.
  9. Eco-friendly printing practices – we only print when necessary and print on 2 sides of a single piece of paper where possible.
  10. E-payslips – emailing payslips to our employees saves the cost and transportation of posting letters as well as wasting of paper and ink.
  11. Green website hosting – we’re proud to say we use Kinsta a green hosting company for our websites which means are websites run on 100% renewable energy.
  12. Commuting schemes – by carefully planning the most economical routes for our technicians to visit client’s sites we reduce the miles our team travel and our carbon footprint.
  13. Regional teams – we make strategic hiring decisions to have our technicians based in several regions throughout the UK.  They are provided with vehicles, plant, and equipment so they can depart from their home addresses straight to site locations throughout the UK minimising travel, fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
  14. New vehicles – our fleet consists of newer vehicles that are equipped with ad-blue and where possible and feasible, selecting and using hybrid and / or 100% electric vehicles.
  15. 100% recycled cargo areas – our vehicles are now fully lined out with 100% recycled plastic rather than timber and harsh chemicals used in fiberglass. This is significantly more environmentally friendly and reduces waste as it lasts three times longer than our previous solution so reduces waste.
  16. Educating our employees – we develop our team’s understanding of sustainable practices by providing training sessions on topics such as energy efficiency, waste management and water conservation. Educating employees on these things gives them the knowledge to not only be more environmentally friendly in their workplace but also in their own homes.

We are all responsible for playing our part in the global effort to protect the planet and our workplace should not be a space where we stop caring about this.

At Brooklands we are committed to boosting our green credentials year on year.  Constantly looking at ways to introduce new practices to incorporate more green way of life into our cleaning and our business,
